Harvard CAMLab

Dynamic Brand Identity
Project Overview
For my Brand Identity System project, I developed a dynamic visual identity for Harvard CAMLab, a research lab that uses media and technology to make cultural history and artistic knowledge accessible to the public. The goal of this project was to create a flexible identity system that reflects CAMLab’s interdisciplinary work across exhibitions, immersive installations, and digital platforms. Through research into the lab’s mission, audience, and cultural impact, I designed a visual language that can adapt across different contexts while remaining cohesive. The system aims to translate CAMLab’s evolving research into a clear and engaging identity that amplifies its role in connecting historical knowledge with contemporary media.

The logo is based on the Chinese character (cave), inspired by CAMLab’s cave-related projects and its own “CAMLab cave” space. Drawn in a calligraphic style, it introduces a human, culturally rooted element while functioning as a flexible frame that can hold project visuals. A bracket system extends the idea of framing and research, referencing CAMLab’s academic context. Together with supporting shapes that contain project imagery, the system allows each project to integrate into a cohesive yet adaptable identity.

The palette is based on traditional Chinese mineral pigments found in cave paintings and murals. These natural colors give the identity a sense of cultural authenticity, while providing a flexible foundation that can support many different CAMLab projects.
